About

Hali Armstrong is a ceramic artist and the designer behind Hechizo. Combining ceramics, metals and textiles into items made to adorn both people and homes, Hechizo pieces are the fruits of Hali's deep interest in materials, process and meaning.

Raised in a family of makers, carpentry, sewing clothes and gardening were all commonplace at home. Her grandmother passed down a special love for embroidery and crochet. A deep love of arts and crafts and evolved into a questioning of the decorative art's place in art, design and the greater economy. Hali received a BFA in Sculpture and Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006 and worked in product design in NYC for close to a decade before starting Hechizo, a ceramic jewelry line, in 2014. Featured in over one hundred boutiques across the country including Anthropologie, Hauser & Wirth and ABC Carpet and Home, the studio was relocated to Virginia in 2017. Today Hechizo is a ceramic studio specializing in craft lighting, jewelry and home wares that are unabashedly ornamental. Hali strives to edify decorative art and American craft traditions in her work and studio practice by pairing contemporary themes with playful applications.

Hali lives very near the James river in Richmond, VA with her husband and two young daughters. Her studio is in Scott's Addition and will be open in the Fall of 2024 for showroom appointments (coming soon).
