Yule Sconce

Did you know that the Yule log tradition stems from pagan and medieval practices of burning a large log or tree at the winter solstice? Not only practical, it symbolized light and abundance on the longest darkest day of the year. Folks would often decorate the log with fresh leaves and foliage to symbolize the return of Spring and growth. Light from dark. Holding a torch for the abundant season ahead and keeping hope stoked through hardship. Enjoying the downtime a quiet season can bring.

I'm interested in merging traditions, meaning, symbols with the small rituals we perform everyday. Here, it's turning on a light and, in the act, illuminating our spaces with meaning.
